As I trampled along the Downs yesterday, watching the dogs go about their business, it occurred to me who’s walking who? I mean, I’ve driven up the carpark and let them out… I headed towards a footpath with them haring ahead of me. Then they get on with their walking activities, sniffing, marking, with half an eye watching which way I’m going. If Scrumpy gets to a junction before me, he waits for me so that he can follow me, while Massey charges on ahead, retracing his steps if he made the wrong path.
What would happen if you came to an open field and let them decide the route? Would they wait for you to decide which direction to take or would they do their own thing, catching up with you when they needed to. What kind of walk would you go on if you followed them - round in circles, a squiggly line or a direct route following a previously walked track?
This reminds me of a YouTube video I found the other day.
